eBay: jumpstart a collection for $15k

Post by alang »

Looks like someone bought an abandoned storage locker with a small collection. Some nice machines, but $15k seems a bit steep I think

There are some rare and very valuable machines there. On in particular is the very late Mahogany Zonophone with the matching mahogany horn. Then there are run in the mill machines. It will be interesting to see if any one buys this including the 9% sales tax.

Too bad this seller did not show up at the California Phonograph show two weeks ago. Most of these machines would likely have sold and they might have realized the money they are interested in selling one at a time, instead of all at once.

Me and a few friends might split this collection. Going to make some offers and see if they are willing to negotiate, this is going to hurt my wallet.
Any Info on the lot would be nice since I can't name some of them at all.

A little steep since I don't even collect cylinder machines. If anyone is interested in specific machine from the lot you can send me a PM if you want to work something out.

This lot was on Craigslist first. I offered to buy one of the machines but no response. I think the sellers are determined
to sell the lot as a whole. Good luck at $15K though.

Hello,
The factors to consider are,
The condition of every machine.
Any rare items? Not really.
You have to put out a large amount of money when you probably only want a few of the machines and
will need to resell the rest.
Averaged out I don't think that you would want to pay any more than $8K for the lot. That would be about $421.00 each based on 19 machines.

I was thinking around 8k for the lot as well, maybe try to sell the rest of the lot individually and keep the mahogany horn and a few other for my self. I was going to pay that much that day but they wouldn't even talk about lowering the price while I was there. They kept telling me to go back and think about it.
I got a voice mail today and they said they would take 12.5k cash for the lot.
So this is probably not going to happen.

Do like the "Pickers" and meet them half way at $10k... or take a chance on flipping a coin...

Looks like someone bought it. They closed the auction early. Perhaps outside of ebay. I feel terrible when ebay loses business like that.
