Victrola IX tabletop on craigslist only $8,000

Post by PHONOMIKE »

It's a bit pricey, but it does come with 50 - 78RPM records

By the way, not mine.

I wonder if this seller is related to the guy selling the $2995.00 Victrola 50 that has been listed for a few years now on ebay.

Sent a little message to the seller, informing him of the 'facts of life'…..

I'm not holding my breath as to a reply…. ;)

$8000.00? Why, that's ridiculous! I also have a Victrola IX that I will sell for only $4000.00 and it has been serviced. Free shipping, of course.

I see that the ad is now down. The reality message may have worked.

It's worth what someone will pay for it. If someone has paid $8000 for it, then I conclude it was worth it, if only to them! :D

Sometimes it is easy to assume that just because we know what something is worth to us collectors then we automatically know what it might be worth generally. I was surprised for example when an Expert Senior was judged to be worth $20,000 by an "interior decorator" when it was only worth half that to a collector!

Pricing by casual sellers on Craigslist and such is also often based on emotion, e.g., because this phonograph was something grandma cherished it must be worth a great deal.
