Hi All- A gentleman has asked me to help him get his 2nd style Columbia AJ working. I've worked on many of the cast iron framed motors over the years, but this is the first time I've seen this particular motor. Another forum member helped me ID it as an early style motor with the nickel plated motor plates, but we are both a bit stumped as to whether the spindle gear (no fiber gear) is correct, whether the notch in the side of the case for the winding shaft is right and whether the round disc on the end of the on/off shaft and the speed yoke itself is correct. Both look a little suspect. There's no evidence of the spring steel piece that usually engages the end of the on/off shaft. I've included several pics. Does anyone have any experience with this motor? I'd appreciate either confirmation that it's all correct, or specifics about which parts may have been replaced. Thanks in advance--

What model AJ is it? 1st,2nd or 3rd? I now see it is the 2nd model with the crank on the side? If so, I can take some pics of mine if that will help?

Everything except the disc on the brake/speed control look 100% legit. The disc apparently is supposed to push down on the speed control arm when the brake plunger is pushed in. I think that downward braking force is supposed to be supplied by a small leaf spring on the back of the speed control arm. Pushing the brake plunger in is supposed to release the force of that spring only and not actively apply the brake.
However, there are always exceptions & I have not yet "seen it all", so I could be mistaken about the disc.
