I just recently purchased a small case, early Victor I. I am having one heck of a time getting the motor to run properly. I cleaned all of the crud from the motor and the gears. I cleaned the teeth of the gears. It runs for a few revolutions and jams up. I gently push the governor balls, and it runs a bit before it jams again. When it does run, it sounds like a tractor. I checked all of the gears, and there are no burrs or obstructions. The spindle shaft and the governor has the right amount of play. I have worked on many motors, but this is the most difficult one for me. Is there a trick to getting these early Victor I motors to work properly? I hate to send it away if it is something simple that I can do.

Re: Victor I Motor Problems
at first read it sounds like a break in one of the gears if you push the govenor is there a cracking sound then a smooth ride and then stop??
also the govenor might be too tight in its barrings loosen the barrings and oil them and see if that helps(always do this with the motor completely unwound)
and no3 you might have a dry spring then the spring in its barrel might be all glued up with old dried-up grease several windings might be glued up stalling the motor

Re: Victor I Motor Problems
I got the Victor I motor working good. I took everything apart(except the spring). I rechecked all of the gears. It turned out that there was a broken tooth on the brass spindle gear.I honestly didn't see it. I saw a glint of light on the gear tooth. I examined it further with a magnifying glass, and saw the break. I replaced the gear and now it works fine. The motor is a tad noisy, but that is typical of these motors.

it sometimes hurts to be right i just knew that it had to be a broken gear that i gave as the first option in my reactionPhonofreak wrote:I got the Victor I motor working good.
