Morbid is right. I think the reason there are so many watchers is to see if some sucker will buy this monstrosity.

Just like a train wreck. You just can't look away.

Re: 17 people watching? Why?
Could someone help a newbie understand the discussion here?
I see a Victrola cabinet in what I take to be a mahogany finish, the most common finish. I see that the lid is severely damaged. I see some rather ugly handles have been (not inexpertly) attached. I see that the asking price is laughably high, and I understand why the OP asked the question in the subject line.
But "monstrosity"? "Train wreck"? I don't understand why this listing provokes such strong responses. To me, it's just an overpriced Victrola cabinet, not an absurd-looking crap o phone with a five figure asking price. Am I missing something?
I'm not trying to be argumentative, I'm simply trying to understand and to learn.
Thanks in advance, Mark

Re: 17 people watching? Why?
I think the reason we sometimes have these absurd, silly threads is just kidding around. Like the threads about crap-o-phones, and other absurdities, these discussions lighten the hobby a little. It's good to be a serous collector, but a little fun and silliness helps, too. If you take this hobby to seriously, you'll go bonkers. However, there is a time to be serious, and a time to kid around.

Re: 17 people watching? Why?
I put it up there because it had 17 watchers and wasn't anything special and overpriced. I wondered if the seller had fake id's to draw attention to his/her item with all those watchers. How could 17 people be interested in this machine? The comment about the handles was a joke.

Thanks for the responses. Sometimes it's hard to get a joke when just reading text.
Perhaps these 17 watchers are thirsting for, not a Victrola, but a liquor cabinet? Alas, there won't be much money left for whiskey if they bite.
Best wishes, Mark
