The article sounds like a lot of us:

http://images.restorationhardware.com/m ... ophone.pdf

The guy doesn't know a Victrola from a radio, but he's on the right track! :)

I like this statement,
"It doesn’t sound like a conventional stereo,
he adds, and that’s the beauty of it. “There’s
something about listening to a record on
an old phonograph…it doesn’t have the
fidelity of a CD or MP3 but it evokes a
feeling. It’s the same with this. It’s about
eliciting a feeling.”

Ahhh... Listening to a good old MP3... :)

That almost looks like the Atwater Kent radio horn with that little tag on the front of the gooseneck base.

If my past experience with Restoration Hardware electronics is anything to go by, I'll give it a six-month lifespan. When it dies, it will be impossible to fix.

Part of the fun is, there are NO electronics in this - it is purely acoustic.

My experience with the company is mixed. I own one of their polar bear cocktail shakers. As a sculpture it is a wonderful piece- but as a cocktail shaker it is grossly overweight and clumsy to hold. Lovely shelf piece though.
