Please wish Ray Phillips a Merry Christmas

Post by TinfoilPhono »

You may recall in August when I asked forum members to send Ray Phillips a birthday greeting when he turned 94. He was absolutely thrilled to receive so many nice cards. His daughter would love for him to enjoy similar attention during the upcoming holidays.

For those who may not have had the pleasure of knowing Ray, he is a true legend, one of the first serious phonograph collectors going all the way back to 1936.

He's been a mentor to many people and a font of knowledge for decades, especially in the dark ages when very little information was available. At least two of my most treasured pieces in my collection came from Ray. He bought and sold some incredible phonographs in his collecting career!

Ray's memory is failing but he is still active, healthy, and lives in the moment. He treasures every second of every day. He may or may not remember you, but even if not he will appreciate hearing from you all. That much I can guarantee.

Let's flood his mailbox with good wishes from new generations of collectors who bask in the shadow of this great legend.

If you'd like to join in the celebration, please PM me for his mailing address (I don't think it would be proper for me to post it in a public forum).

Thanks!

Yes, I know Ray as all members of the Golden State Phonograph Society do. He has been to my house and I even was surprised several years ago to see him pop up and greet me and my friends at the intermission during a San Diego Symphony concert. Please PM me his address so I can send him a holiday greetings! Also about ten years ago, he came to a GSPS meeting, chaufeurred in a Ford Model T sedan dressed up as Thomas Edison himself! Marc C.
