SOLD: Victor Vic III - INQUIRE

Post by spin78's »

It's been a while since I've logged in. I had to go to "phonograph rehab" for a while. :-)

Actually I have been doing a house rehab on a small bungalow built in the twenties. My old house served me well for twenty years. It gave me 3,022 sq. ft. to collect all the phonographs that I could find.

I began dispersing my collection about two years ago knowing that my new house barely measures in at 840 sq. ft. and from the collection I kept one Victor Credenza, and one Victor IX....and of course all of the record collection. Since moving into this house one year ago I've purchased two record cabinets, another Victor IX, and this Vic III with it's record cabinet. I guess you never really get over collecting these things and can only justify it as getting "good deals".

This Vic III was purchased this past summer at an estate sale in Kansas City. I spoke to the owner of the machine who was the granddaughter of the original owner. The machine and cabinet was purchased new by her grandfather. This machine is in good original condition. It is un-touched and as original as they come. When I brought it home the motor was missing one governor weight, and there were no gaskets in the soundbox. I did not have a matching governor weight for this early machine, but had some close to the original and replaced all three. These work but really need to be replaced with the correct ones for the machine. (notice the dice under the motor board at the speed control) I have not "gone through" the motor so the new owner should plan on doing some maintenance and indeed there is some thumps to the springs as they wind down. It seems to be a very efficient motor (a couple of winds and the platter starts spinning) so it should clean up nice.

The record cabinet has a small chip on the upper right of the cabinet by the door. Also the fancy scrolling at the bottom of the door was loose on the left corner (tip) and has been glued at some point. It is solid but shows some glue if you look close at it. The finish has plenty of crazing. Other than dusting I have not cleaned or polished any of the cabinet or the machine case.

I though that I would offer this for sale here to you guys first. If no interest here it goes to e-bay. I'd like to see close to $1,600 for it for the cabinet, machine, horn, and all the records inside that came with it. I wouldn't mind cash and part trade or a good #5 orthophonic reproducer. I also like Victor scroll records. I'll take offers.

E-bay will be my last resort as most buyers want these shipped and I just can't imagine shipping the machine, cabinet, and records safely, and would rather not separate it. So I would like the buyer of this machine to pick it up in Kansas City, Missouri.
