Santa showed up today... with a Victrola XX
This never happens to me, so I guess it was Santa... Yesterday, I stopped at an antique shop 5 miles away from my house that I go by often. I saw a Chris Craft wooden boat in the window that caught my attention, since it was a model about 6 feet long with its own trailer. My curiosity got the best of me, so I decided to check it out. When I walked in the door, I asked the lady if she knew of any phonograph related items in the store. She said they had over 30 dealers, but she wasn't aware of anything and hadn't worked in a day or two. I headed into the room with the Chris Craft and staring at me straight ahead was a strange looking phonograph, which I had never seen in person before. I lifted the lid and found gold colored hardware and a Victor label on the inside of the lid... My mind started trying to picture machines that I had seen in books, but I knew instinctively that whatever this was, I needed to buy it... They were about to close, so I said I wanted it and would give them a deposit to hold it until they opened this morning. She said it wasn't necessary, but I had trouble sleeping last night until this morning when I showed up as they opened the doors and I loaded it into the car... I was still somewhat panicked until I got it paid for and out of the shop...

Whaaaatttt!??!!
I need to start hitting antique shops more often.
Incredible find, and great that it's gone to a good home.

Intensely green with envy....................
But another inspiring indication that they really are still out there. Which is why I keep hitting my local shops. Someday...

If it makes you feel any better about spending that kind of $, when I got my 1909 XVI L-door, about 12 years ago, it cost me at least $750..., and it's a "fairly common" variation of the L-door...
I think you did quite well !

Congratulations, Curt. I'm so glad you got it. It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
