Edison - A 85

Post by SydneyAde »

Hi again folks

I seriously have to stop buying phonographs (what's this disorder called  ), I have completely blown the budget now, and
have so many things to work on (mainly common machines) I don't know where to start…. although I did buy a dilapidated A85 today :o
and I'm guessing the parts for this are not too readily available? Although possibly some A100 parts might interchange with the A85? At least that's
the impression I got from looking at the pics?

I am hoping that once I start working on my gear, I'll try to give back and share with this forum…

Regards

Ade

From what I have read in Frow, the A-85 used the A-100 mechanism and horn, so any A-100 parts would likely be interchangeable...

That's such good news, thanks Lucius & Edisone

I skimmed Frow, and obviously missed that important piece of information,
thank you Lucius!

The machine I purchased, but not taken delivery of, has what seems to be the
same 78 type reproducer as the one in the pic on the thread, thanks Edisone.
I'll read those postings with interest.

I think I'll have my work cut out as I understand there is borer damage on
the underside of the cabinet, although he assured me there was no major
structural damage. I'll also need to replace the spring I understand, as well
as some surface ply. Fingers crossed, and I hope the couriers are careful.

Season's Greetings & Regards ade :)

Hmmm... Have never seen one... The case looks like a cross with B-80 Case with a typical Diamond Disc Bedplate and workings with an Amberola 75 type grille in front.. Very interesting!
