New member looking for info on my phonograph

Post by Rshammond1140 »

I recently purchased my first phonograph and am trying to find some information on the manufacturer and age. It is a cabinet mounted phonograph with a wooden soundbox below it. The only name i can find is inscribed on the inside of the lid It says "The Linnet" "Registered"in olde english type. The reproducer has only has the following stamped on it. Made in England Prov Pat 5450-28

I have included a few photographs.

Thanks for the help

I can't help you with much, but I like it- I was expecting to see an ordinary oak console cabinet but this sideboard is unexpected and quite delightful.

Thanks. We really liked the piece even without the phonograph. The phonograph was like a pearl in the oyster

I like it too.
If any is falling in love with this, its twin may still be available in Raleigh, North Carolina.

James, it's not a twin, but the actual machine. Note the grain pattern is identical.... ;).

I see said the blind carpenter, as he picked-up his hammer and saw!

Mulligan, you should get a spare reproducer for future parts that may be needed.

James

That is where I purchased this unit. So I guess there is not a twin out there

Roaring20s

Do you know who made these reproducers or what companies used them?

I believe that they are of Swiss origin. They were often marketed in Britain with a special tag on the front marking them as "The Limit FM". When rebuilt they are really excellent reproduces, and can improve ' most any machine with the standard Victor/HMV fitting on the tone arm. They are particularly nice when used with fiber needles.
