Victor Victrola William and Mary on Craigslist VV-500

Post by Victrola-Monkey »

Any takers? The Los Angelos area Craigslist seller emailed me back stating he's asking six figures. I saw this on Craigslist last year for around $1250 and had emailed the original seller and offered twice her asking price, but missed out. Anybody have one or know it's value?

Six figures for a Victrola that happens to be in a pretty cabinet, but which was not made by a noted artist? Ridiculous. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I don't think it's worth $999,999. five figures, maybe, though it would depend on which numerals are used... something in the mid to high four figures is probably more like it. I really don't care for listings that have no price but instead vague suggestions of value coupled with solicitations for offers... that will definitely turn some, or more than some, buyers off.

Just trollin' for suckers... I think it's the same guy who wanted $1,000 for a Dinah Shore record, because "dinahshores are extinct"...

Wow thanks, been looking for one for a while. Just down the road from me so I sent my son in advance with the cash.

I would expect a Period Model Victrola like this to be worth more than $5,000 and less than $10,000. Jerry

An upright would be more desirable. I had a hard time getting $5,000 for wide Gothic I sold a couple of years ago. I would think a wide model would be worth between $2,500 and $5,000.

Thank you all for your input, love the humor and I am glad consoles are less desirable than uprights because I like them lots more. I would be very interested in purchasing the Victor Gothic console from whom you sold it to Mr. Skihawx, if they would be interested in parting with it by way of sale or trade or both.

wouldn't machines in cabinets of this type all be considered uprights, just very wide ones? they may be as wide as the standard lowboy variety, like a 215 or 240, but they're certainly as tall as the typical upright XI or XIV, etc.

The issue is the width. There is a smaller market because of the space wide machines take up. However this is different because of the rarity and desirability of having a rare art case model. It is something many collectors would get rid of lesser machines to make space for. It will be very interesting to see what it brings, if we can find out.

2. Shortage of finance, however dire, will never prevent the acquisition of a desired object, however improbable its cost.
