Is this the fabled 4-minute recorder???

I just moved this from Machines. I hadn't even been thinking about it when I first posted.

EDIT: I just checked this back against the 4-minute recorder featured in one of Ben Canaday's videos. It is the real deal, and I am goin for it. Wish me luck!

I think this is a regular 2 minute recorder on a reproduction box for a model H reproduce. Of course, I could be wrong.

The box is irrelevant, look at the stylus holder. Also, the casing has an H stamped into it. I really think that this is the real deal but I want to be sure...

No, you're probably not blind. I expect to have to make or find a stylus if I get it. Of course, I could do that on a 2 minute recorder... But this is so cool, because you never see these.

In the description the seller says it is a model H recorder and that he has used it So it must have a stylus? By the way, "Good Luck"

I never heard of a Model H recorder. I've heard of a Model H reproducer. I do know that a 4 min. recorder usually has a green tint on the top like an H reproducer. I think this is a regular 2 min. recorder.

That's what I thought at first, too. However, if you look through the pics, it has the weird stylus bar with the spider on the diaphragm. In addition, the little fins that hold the bar in place are rectangular and situated near the edge, rather than round and situated near the center as in a 2 minute recorder.

This all said, I'd love to be wrong because I really need to save money for Union.

My advice would be to save your money for Union. With the poor pictures you really don't know what your getting, but it looks screwed up to me. Most of the recorders have a letter or single number stamped into the body besides the serial number. I don't know what the letter or number relates to but the letter H seems to be pretty common and I don't think it has anything to do with 4 minute or a model.

Best Regards, Larry

Duly noted. I have decided not to bid on it. I already have a 2 minute recorder, and I don't really need anything else right now. I'm sure I can make something if I ever change my mind.
