Very strange machine on eBay. The seller is quite forthcoming about the strange label, but thinks it's an Edison Columbia hybrid. Not sure if it has been discussed here before, but I am curious why someone apparently long ago would create an Edison Disc Graphophone label and put it on a Columbia machine? Are these two plugged holes in the wood next to the crank? Any ideas?

Seller is "phonocrazy" who has sold some serious machines on ebay.
IMHO, the "decal" looks hand painted. I've also known some sellers who describe any machine as an "Edison", because he invented the phonograph, but this seller should know better. (Nobody remember Emil Berliner of course.)

Hmmmm.
Well, the seller seems to represent the machine fairly honestly in the description...

It does look like a recent creation.

There is nothing "Edison" about it, beyond it being talking machine having his name painted on a fake decal. I am most inclined to believe an individual did that, rather than a "rogue" company.

It's the rare Columbia client machine made for Edison...

Re: Edison Columbia hybrid on eBay
OK:
It appears to be similar to a late model BI: the corner columns are somewhat different from my example, though; and the speed control seems different from other Columbias of that period (no separate brake, either).
The soundbox has the spring chuck of the Analyzing reproducer, but seems unusual otherwise.
The seller claims to have bought the machine from the "well known" "TF": perhaps a query to our own "TF" might shine some light on this?
It is hard to pronounce judgement on this until we know all the facts.

The markings on the speed-control quadrant are interesting... just arbitrary markings ?
( Or not for / from a talking machine at all ? )
