WANTED: VV-XII Victrola Spring Assembly or Complete Motor

Post by FellowCollector »

I have a complete Victrola VV-XII motor that needs a mainspring shaft or the entire mainspring assembly. Someone in the past snapped about ¾ inch off the end of the shaft where the threads would be. So, the female crank can no longer connect to the mainspring shaft.

Since this is my only VV-XII, I would love to get it working as it's been sitting on a shelf here for more than 20 years awaiting my attention.

Everything else on this VV-XII is complete and in nice original condition so I would love to see it playing again.

Why anyone would exert so much pressure on a victrola crank to snap off the end of the mainspring shaft I don't know but it's a real shame.

I examined a motor on one of my early XVI Victrolas to compare the (nickel plated) mainspring assemblies.

On the VV-XII motor, the crank engages directly with the mainspring shaft and the ratchet gear and winding gear are on the opposite end of the mainspring assembly.

On the VV-XVI motor, the crank engages first with the ratchet gear and winding gear which turns the mainspring shaft. This was the most common Victor mainpspring assembly engagement method.

Anyway, I would be interested in one of the following options:

1. a complete VV-XII mainspring assembly
2. a good VV-XII mainspring shaft (original or new)
3. a complete VV-XII motor
4. somehow attaching about a ¾ inch threaded extension to the current mainspring shaft (a long shot I know!)
5. open to other options you can think of

The current mainspring assembly I have is in otherwise perfect functioning condition.

I've attached some pictures below. Feel free to click on the pictures twice in succession to zoom and see finer details.

Thanks,

Doug
