Phonograph Horn- Real or Crapophone?

Post by Shane »

I found this horn at a local antique shop. Some dummy did an awful job spray-painting it gold. I scratched away a bit of the gold paint, and what I saw underneath was either nickel plating or chrome... very shiny. The horn with elbow attached measures 17" long, and the bell is about 14", so it's not all that large. Any ideas as to what this might be? The elbow looks to be well made and not cheap, but I'm not sure about it.

At first glance I would say it's from a crapophone but like you said the elbow looks well made and not cheap. The elbow on the crapophone horns are at a sharp angle. Not sure what this could be. :?

It's a crap-o-phone horn. So is the elbow. The newer crap-o-phones are using curved elbows now. You can see the little "dings" from the crude handmade workmanship.
