I'm offering for sale this completely original Edison Standard model C Phonograph from my collection.
The Edison model C Standard Phonograph was released for sale only in New York State primarily due to legal implications.
This model possessed several innovative features that were dramatically different from the preceding models. Some notable features, among others, were the lack of the cylinder mandrel end gate and the speed control appearing beneath the bedplate.
All of the Edison model C cylinder phonographs, including the Standard model are scarce.
And it is my opinion that the "vanilla", "standard issue" Edison model C phonographs that were initially released in New York State are especially scarce. That is, those early models without the ICS modifications.
This is an example of the elusive totally 'vanilla' standard issue model C Edison Standard phonograph in the early tall case.
The most commonly found Edison Standard model C phonographs have been modified with the ICS attachment for repeating the last phrase in a given 2 minute ICS speech cylinder and the celluloid ICS tag adorning the front of the cabinet.
If you have been looking for a nice completely original example of the elusive standard issue Edison Standard model C phonograph then this would be a fine choice.
This phonograph looks and plays outstanding. It has been my observation that the very earliest model C Standards had no issues whatsoever with the mandrel bearing. This example is completely virgin and untouched and the mandrel spins perfectly true in its original bearing. The original nickel plating is outstanding on this. The cabinet finish is dry and flaking but still very presentable. The original Edison trademark decals on both the cabinet and bedplate are very nice. The motor and top works run smooth and true. All that I have done to this is apply some old English furniture polish to remove ancient bedplate dust and sediment that accumulated during its life.
I'm asking for a reasonable offer for this phonograph as I have not seen one sold on Ebay or similar auction place. I only know that it is unusual to find an Edison Standard model C in this original early 'vanilla' configuration.
By the way, the original gear guard and feedscrew cover are included. I forgot to put them on in most of the pictures!
Thanks,
Doug
