Someone got a STEAL on an Early Cased Columbia BC

Post by Zwebie »

Just noticed this in the sold "buy-it-now" items on Ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1906-Gramophone ... 7675.l2557

Someone got a STEAL, ($695), on an Early Cased Columbia BC!

Was it anyone on the Forum ?

There are several dealers in the area who regularly prowl ebay and craigs list, so watch for it to reappear at twice the buying price.

I happen to see this auction while the machine was still available. The "BUY IT NOW" price did get my attention but I thought there were to many unknowns for me to take the chance.
I didn't like the lid, it didn't match the machine, plus it has a hole in it. There were no pictures of the back of the machine so it was unclear how that make shift crane may have been attached to the case and what damage may have been done. And one of the biggest concerns was no pictures of the back side of the reproducer. No way to tell if it was complete or not. I know of no one currently making the shoe or any other parts if they were needed for this very special reproducer. It seems Paul Baker at one time was but I don't know about now.
Just my opinion, but I thought it was a gamble and a project, hopefully it will payoff for the winner.

Best Regards, Larry

That is so cool looking. I never saw a BC with a case like that, before. Whoever got it will have a rare and stunning machine when restored.

I believe it is the same cabinet as the Graphophone Grand, (a much rarer machine).
