Question: How uncommon are these Model D Edisons?

Post by Lenoirstreetguy »

Here's a scan of the brochure announcing the Edison Combination D machines in 1908. The Standard and the Home have the old style cabinets without the molding at the bottom that became the norm . How long were the old style cabinets used? It must have been for a very brief period. I've never seen a D machine in the old style case.
Thoughts?

I had a Standard D with the old style cabinet and old style striping as well. It was No.676769. I've seen a handful of others, but think you're right - - production was of short duration before the new cabinet molding and decoration came into use.

George, your serial number is interesting because it's higher than my Standard D 644629 which has a new style cabinet. I know it's original because I got it from the first owner. The ways of the National Phonograph Company are wondrous to observe . :D

They sure are! My Standard D is serial number 782222, and it has the old style cabinet that is pictured in the brochure.
