I need an original catch that was used for the Berliner record box - I think it's pretty much an American generic turn of the last century item (certainly not bespoke) - but pretty hard to get hold of here in the UK. The catch needed is exactly the one pictured on the Sat May 2 posting of 'Victor 1 and Berliner finds at local auction' under machines. And also on here from a recent Stanton auction.
Many thanks
Tris Penna/London

Re: WANTED: catch for berliner record box
Hi Tris-- "Somewhere" I have two catches that came off a Suitcase Home-- but sure look like the ones in your pictures--- I will dig them out tomorrow and compare them to the one on my Berliner box and let you know if they are a match. I'll be back in touch. I hope I can find one that works for you.

Re: WANTED: catch for berliner record box
Hi Brad - and greetings from a sunny Bank Holiday Monday in London. Many thanks for your offer of help, most appreciated. The difficulty I've had is in finding a catch that the exact shape and is the same age as an original (i.e. it doesn't look new and an obvious replacement). Looking forward to hearing back from you. Cheers Tris

Re: WANTED: catch for berliner record box
Hi Tris- I found the clips I have-- Unfortunately they are similar--but a bit larger than the one on my Berliner record box. They are identical to the ones on my Suitcase Home.... a bit wider and taller than the one on my record box. Sorry- I was hoping for a match.

Hi Brad - thanks for letting me know, shame. And Steve - thanks for pointing me in the direction of that eBay ad - it's not quite the right catch either. Any other leads? Cheers Tris Penna

Re: WANTED: catch for berliner record box
I have one of these record cases and am in need of the leather strap on the top.
Does anyone have one or know where I can acquire one?
Thanks for any information!
All the best!

There are lots of places selling parts for old trunks, including straps of many sizes, colors and shapes. Check out this site. Scroll down the page and you'll find dozens of options. Hopefully one is the correct size for you.
