Chick Evans on Brunswick! Fore!!!!!!!!

Post by marcapra »

Ever heard any Chick Evans records? I bought a set of six Brunswicks. Are these records common or rare? The series is titled "Chick Evans' Golf Secrets". It is dedicated to the National Caddies' Tournament under the auspices of the Western Golf Association. These are the old "batwing" acoustic Brunswicks on a gold and white label with numbers such as 101A. Each side has a subtitle like "Using the Driving Iron", "Using the Spoon", "Using the Putter", "Using the Mashie", etc. I read that Chick Evans was a golfing champion in the teens and 20s. It seems odd that they would make golf instruction records when golf is such a visual sport. I wonder if Evans made silent movies of his golf moves with a projectionist playing these records as sound accompaniment? Of course, in the early 30s, when sound movies were standard, Bobby Jones made a series of golf shorts: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXIo8jj3cl0

Brunswick Batwings are pretty rare, as far as I know. Not as rare as Columbia scrolls though ;)

The Brunswick "batwings" are not rare at all. Very common in fact. I've never heard of or seen Columbia scrolls though.

I was joking. I've heard of Victor Batwings and Victor Scrolls, but never of Brunswick Batwings.

If you look at the old gold, black and white Brunswick label, it actually looks like a batwing, more so than the contemporary Victor...
