Edison dance reproducer, Help!

Post by saxymojo »

Hi

Edison diamond disc dance reproducer questions

Does anyone know how to remove the spring at the back of the diaphragm?

Also is there anyone making the link from the diaphragm to the stylus.

Thank you

Regards Marcel

In order to remove the top diaphragm spring, the three screws on the top flange of the diaphragm cup need to be removed and the tone tube removed, and this will expose the spring assembly and the spring can be removed from the hook on top of the diaphragm with tweezers or needle nose. I have had no luck finding wire wrapped links.
There is currently a True Tone Diaphragm, made by member larryh in my Dance, and it sounds great, clear rich tone with plenty of volume.

Thanks Mike

So, the spring has to be unhooked from the diaphragm not the bar, that will be tricky.

Maybe I can make a wire wrapped link

Cheers Marcel

Marcel,
Yes, unhook the spring from the top hook that is attached to the top of the ivory cap in the center of the diaphragm, if I recall correctly, it will come off the bar but it has been a while and don't remember. Keep a sharp eye on that spring in case it does fly off into neverland !
I have made attempts at making wire wrapped links with no success. I have however made my own links out of green cord and tiny metal eyelets I found in a craft store.
Forum member "larryh" makes wonderful diaphragms out of Styrofoam call True Tone. As I mentioned before, I have one of these in my Dance and it sounds amazing. Larry might be able to make you one with the top hook, you would have to check with him.
Good luck,
Mike
