WANTED: VV - IV or VV- VI (For Elementary School Use)

Post by EdiBrunsVic »

Some of you will remember my post back in March, "The VV-50 Goes to School" and it was a great experience. I have been searching for a reasonably priced example of one of these small Victrolas. At the Union Show, there was one I considered, but the price was a little too much for my budget.

The present thinking is that a VV-IV or VV- VI would be a better idea.

Is there anyone who would sell one of these machines so I could give it to the school where I work? The Fifth Grade Science Teacher enjoyed the presentation and hoped I could find a phonograph that would be easy to play and to also display the motor. These two models are ideal for this purpose.

The condition does not have to be great, just a good serviceable machine. We will be traveling from our area to Indiana in early August, and could perhaps divert off the route slightly if there is a need to meet someone who would have one of these models for sale.

Meanwhile, I will continue to look around this area.
Thanks!
Don Montgomery

I could put you into a nice mahogany VV-VI, with a polished finish and rebuilt motor and reproducer for $150, and am just north of the Ohio-Indiana border. If you would care to fix the fabric covered cabinets I have a number of serviceable Orthophonic Victrola 2-55 machines which would be very inexpensive, as would be small Orthophonic consoles.

Thanks to those who responded, but our trip is now over and I am still searching. Family reunions and travel needs while we were in Indiana and Ohio made it hard to make the right arrangements. Anyone that lives within about four to six hours drive of Lubbock who has one of these machines to sell may contact me.

With appreciation,
Don M.

That price mentioned above seemed pretty reasonable if not cheap. You might want to provide your price range or limit, or specify if you're just looking for some sort of donation.

Yes, the price range of somewhere around $150 is good. The phonograph will be kept at the school in a secured place and used for several science lessons.

I live in Norman, Oklahoma and have a VERY nice VV-VI (see pic) that I would sell for $180.00. It would be hard to find one nice. Thanks, Roy

That felt color looks good, brings out the silver plating nicely

A nice VV-VI has been located. The science teacher at the school where I work and the PTA are happy to acquire a Victrola for school use. I have a few acoustic Victor records to use, but will hunt for a few more.

Needs: A good source for one or two packs of needles (soft or medium tone)
A copy of operating instructions of the VV-VI

A series of lesson plans and notes for elementary science journals are to be prepared.

Thanks,
Don M.
