Daily Mail Mystery Record

Post by epigramophone »

This record was a lucky find at a local flea market last weekend, in it's original sleeve and with the competition entry form uncompleted. I shall not be entering the competition as the closing date was January 18th 1933!

The £1000 first prize was serious money when the average price of a house in the UK was £530. The remaining £470 would have furnished the house very comfortably and bought a good car. If the winner happened to be an audiophile the furnishings might even have included an EMG Mark Xb at £32.

As a Yank, I've only heard of 1 or 2 of these, and I have no records by any of them!

Many thanks for the link. I would have stood no chance of winning!
