Jasper Sanfilippo's Place de la Musique

Post by audiophile102 »

I'm sure many of you have seen this already, but I just saw it for the first time today and it knocked my socks off! I hope to see it in person one day. So sit back and feast your eyes on this amazing collection.

I saw it for the first time this year. It is definitely worth the trip. I'm planning on going back next year. Hopefully the Cubs are in town so I can knock that off my bucket list as well.

Several friends insisted that I should see Jasper's place. I was pretty jaded and said that if I hadn't seen everything, I was getting close. It turns out, I hadn't. You had better go see it. I can't imagine anything on earth approaches that collection.

I also experienced it for the first time this year and I did not want to leave. It's the old "kid in a candy store" on steroids, more like a kid in a walmart full of candy. There is just so much more than you can take in at once in a couple of hours. And always when you think you made it through there is another whole room of amazing stuff, and then another one. If you have the chance to gon GO!

It is jaw-dropping amazing. By all means go if you get a chance.

I finally took a tour of the Place de la Musique yesterday. It exceeded all my expectations. Simply sublime. I am grateful to the Sanfilippo foundation for preserving and sharing such an astounding assortment of fine antique phonographs. There were so many highlights, but what excited me the most was seeing my most coveted machine. The Sonora Supreme with it's original finish intact. There were many others of course and I will be posting more photos when I have time. Be sure to click on the pictures to see them large. Here is a sample.

It's really impossible to convey the experience of the place to someone who has not been there. I was the same way. Some good friends who had outstanding collections were throwing superlatives around in an attempt to convince me to go, but it's impossible to adequately describe the place. My first visit was about 18 years ago, and only then did I understand... :)
