Edison Shaving Machine in Use

Post by phonogfp »

I was wandering through Shorpy just now (an excellent way to burn through a few hours!) and I stumbled across this image. I've never seen a period photo of this model shaving machine in an office. (Clues in this image suggest it's August 1922.) Interestingly, the recording machine is a Dictaphone, so apparently this office had no brand loyalty! :)

That's a great photo, thanks for sharing! And it's even the hand-cranked version. I recall the wife of a friend of mine who once told me, she still had to work with dictation cylinders in England in the 50's. And she just hated it.

I recall when I was 12 to 16 1950 to 1954 that an office on Water St. in down town Baltimore had my father in to sand and finish the floors because of water damage cupping the flooring. They had to shaving machines and each office had a recording machine but I do not recall the maker of the machines. I was astonished that such old looking equipment was sill in use. Allen
