Wow! that actually sounds a lot better than the mica diaphragms. Maybe you are on to something here.

If it's so much better than why didn't the Victor engineers find it ? Not like rice paper and cork were foreign objects back then.

Cost, patent rights, laziness, not thinking of it, the main reason I can come up with is because of the orientation of the sound box/reproducer. One can't show off their pretty labels if it's covered by paper,
Thoughts?

You haven't thought about it that much I can tell. Although a few of your points have merit.

That setup seems to do a good job of mitigating surface noise ! But, non in-line video feeds can be deceptive.

You are correct, no I did not give the matter much thought, and would like to thank you for at least giving my point some merit.
I guess to fully appreciate the diaphragm I've made you would have to hear it in person. The idea behind mounting said diaphragm on the #2 was pure curiosity. You see, for some time now I've been developing a replacement for standard DD reproducers, so I had the materials on hand.
Much can, and has been discovered though experimentation.

Do carry on experimenting. I always find 'modern' methods of improving acoustic playback very interesting. As do a least a few others around here.
