"K" reproducer in Standard F

Post by fmblizz »

Has anyone used a "K" reproducer in an Edison Standard "F".

According to Frow's reference book the machine was supplied with either a "R" or "S" reproducer.

There's no reason why you couldn't use a K reproducer, but if you have the original, large diaphragm S, why would you want to?. :?

The Edison Standard model F has a unique horizontal carriage and carriage 'eye' as I'm sure you are well aware. I'm looking at one of my Standard F phonographs right now with S reproducer. I've not removed my S reproducer to try one of my K reproducers myself but while it appears by looking at the eye that the K reproducer (and C or H reproducers as well) might fit inside the Standard model F carriage 'eye' I'd be curious about securing those reproducers in the 'eye'. The S reproducer has a sleeve that seats itself down into the carriage eye so that the securing screw hits the S reproducer sleeve dead on. Again, my comments are without test fitting a K, C, or H in mine so I'm curious if you are able to adequately secure your K reproducer in the F carriage eye without any trouble or scratching to the K reproducer top.

I have the machine apart right now but the "K" does fit nicely inside the carriage eye and the screw appears to be more than sufficient to hold it in place but like I said the machines apart so when there is added pressure by lowering it onto a record I'm not sure at this point if there would be an issue.

The K works absolutely fine in my Standard F carriage.
This is the first time I have tried it, and the only difference I can find is the definite reduction of bass response in comparison with the larger diaphragmed model S reproducer played through the Cygnet horn.
