I am looking for a new/old stock 47/48mm aluminium diaphragm suitable for the EMG soundbox pictured here.
The existing diaphragm will not flatten completely and the centre hole has become enlarged, necessitating the addition of a small washer which does nothing to improve reproduction.
This is my first venture into the world of EMG/Expert and I need all the help I can get!
Roger.

Re: WANTED: Diaphragm for EMG soundbox
Best get in touch with Ian Maxted Roger - if anyone can hep you, he will! I think we know the whereabouts of one spare diaphragm (not an original but a good later reproduction) but I'm sure the owner won't want to part with it, and even those are like the proverbial hens' teeth or rocking horse manure!
It will probably improve performance a good deal if you use soft, pale brown natural rubber tubing rather than the white synthetic rubber type. Since first using it on Ian's instruction, I never use anything else!
In the absence of a replacement diaphragm, I think I'd be of a mind to experiment by making one or two extremely lightweight washers cut from another diaphragm. If sandwiched tightly and well sealed, that might work quite well. Just a random idea though!
IMHO I wouldn't worry about the other slight creases/bumps. A couple of mine look worse but still perform superbly.
Best of luck with it and congratulations on your purchase!

Re: WANTED: Diaphragm for EMG soundbox
Thanks for the advice. Alastair and I missed your company when we visited Graham last week. We tried my soundbox on the Xb Oversize and in fact it sounded much better than we expected.
Since then I have been given a good mica diaphragm of the correct diameter, so I am tempted to follow Chunny's example and experiment with that.
I hope to have the motor back at the weekend (electrically safe at last) and can then get down to some serious playing.
Roger.
