Victor sleeve, how old is it?

Post by GrafonolaG50 »

I recently picked up a few 78s, and one came in a sleeve that looks pretty old. Does anyone know about how old it is? The thumbnails are screwy, so click on the pictures and they should be correctly oriented.

I don't know, if it was from the 1920s wouldn't it have a picture of a Victrola instead of an external horn machine on a custom stand? That picture looks more like from the first decade of the century, but the rest of the sleeve looks similar to 1920s sleeves. Can anyone resolve the mystery?

Look at what records are advertised on the other side (if any.) An early 1920's sleeve would probably have a cabinet machine and not a horn. A later 20's would be trumpeting Orthophonic recording.

Brings up the point that for all the label guides out there, there aren't many resources for dating sleeves - that I know of anyway. I have hundreds of old empty sleeves like the one pictured. I use them sometimes to realign with period appropriate records when necessary.

There are alot of Haydn Quartet records listed, as well as some Golden and Hughes. One is a Minstrel record by the Victor Minstrel Co.

I saw a video on YouTube of a Victor from 1909 shown in this sleeve: the poster is pretty sure it's the original sleeve.
