Well I decided a few weeks ago to replace the decaling on my Columbia Q bedplate. I stripped down the bedplate and spray painted it black. I then added the decals from Greg Cline. After the decals were applied a fine coat of lacquer was placed over the decals, then a few more coats.
Here is the finished result. I did have some line problems on the front, but I just leave it to appear more authentic.

Looks great! I agree that the slight line chip in front adds to the authentic look.
