This seems to be a nice and almost complete Puck phonograph. Yes, there should be a cover on top of the spring and gears, but half the spring is always open. You can find pictures of similar machines if you search for "Puck" on the forum or the Internet. I have never seen this specific Italian model though. There were many different types pf Pucks made by mamy companies all over Europe and also in the US. The price seems high...

Looks nice, usually these pucks show up in pitiful condition. The missing lid is a problem, though, it would be hen's teeth to find another. These machines are like Victorian children, though, are made to be seen and not heard, the quality of their sound is horrendous even for a phonograph. Its price would be ok if it were really complete, but we never know, it might find an optimistic buyer hoping to stumble on the missing lid on a garbage pile on the way home.
