I believe this was Floyd Silver, who I remember living in Vincetown.

I've been there and most of the things are in poor condition due to being stored in unheated damp locations. He has a few nice machines that he is asking very high prices for.

Sounds like a very cranky person too....
Pasted: Suffice to say this individual has over 45 years of experience with buying, collecting, restoring, and selling all matters related to this particular hobby and it's spin-off tangents. His knowledge base is unparalleled.
prospective/potential customers will be carefully and methodically screened and selected. I expect well versed intelligent buyers to respond to this ad.
This will not be a low ballers convention nor will any feeding frenzy mentality be tolerated.
There are plenty of good people on Craigslist... unfortunately it also abounds with unscrupulous types.

If I were near enough to go, all they need to know about me is that I will have a wad of cash with me. Anyone who feels the need to put me through a round of 20 Questions before allowing me into a sale doesn't need my money. They are probably doing it this way because they know much of it wouldn't do very well at auction.

Floyd's sons are helping him sell off his things. They are very nice people but don't know much about Floyd's things. That said they depend on Floyd to give them guidance and set prices on things. Unfortunately Floyd still thinks that the things are still worth when they were at thier high prices a few years ago.

Re: South Jersey collector down-sizing ?
I think Rich hit the nail on the head. I've collected nearly 40 years, and Floyd was one of the first "big phono guys" I met. He was always very generous with his knowledge and brought great items to the shows. If you needed a part, there was a good chance he would have it, or know where to get it. I found him to be an all around nice guy.
Many of us "old timers" have had to come to grips with the realities that prices are not what they used to be. Case in point-- About 25 years ago (maybe more) I purchased a Victor V with oak spear-point horn from a well-established dealer at the old Bound Brook, NJ show. The V was unrestored, needed a good cleaning and a motor overhaul-- attic-fresh. I gladly forked over $3200 for it, because at the time, well-restored examples were hitting the $4000+ mark. Now.... restored, I may have a hard time getting $2800 for the same machine.
I'm sure Floyd has some good machines and probably a plethora of parts. To my knowledge I've never met his sons and certainly have no opinion as to their knowledge or lack of knowledge about machines. Hopefully, if they are wanting to sell Floyd's collection, they will be open to the "new realities" and set realistic prices. But I certainly wouldn't assign bad motives to their efforts to help their father.

Re: South Jersey collector down-sizing ?
Brad you hit it on the head. Floyd still thinks the prices are high. He does have about six nice machines. He has Victor V with a spear tip horn that he wants $4000 for. I offered $2500 and Floyd said he wouldn't take less than $3500. As far as parts I saw next to none. He had a lot of records but as I said almost everything was stored in an unheated damp area or out side in a shed. It really is a shame how much was ruined due to conditions.
