Appreciation for this board

Post by JohnM »

I'd just like to say a few words of appreciation for this board and it's members. I'm proud of the quality of this board and what that says about the members.

I count many members of this board as my friends, even though we have yet to meet or even converse over the telephone.

Recently, through this board, I have met two members that live an easy one hour drive from us. We are already making plans to get together when Lauri and I return in October. Even though we live close together, we may never have met if not for this board.

I just wanted to express my gratitude to our founder, John; our administrator(s), David; and everyone else who is a member for making this board consistently one of the highlights of my day.

Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray!

HEAR!

I learn something everyday here. & I have a good time doin' it.
This board has very high standards when you compare it to other online "special-subject" boards.

We have a great mix of seasoned veterans, highly trained professionals, enthusists, newbies, old ones, youngsters & the occasional maniac.. Spread out all over the world. All willing to share what they've seen & know about those lovely Talking Machines.

David does a great job maintaining it I must say!

But I do miss this boards Father, John, anyone heard from him lately? I do hope he is okey, whatever he does.

Ditto on all of the above. In my case it gives me a chance to talk about my hobby with experts and newbies most of whom are at least 4500 miles away and more. Fortunately I've also met some very friendly collectors in my neighborhood, (Europe) too :D

I agree. This Board provides a friendly forum for phonograph and old music devotees to learn more about our mutual interests and share our knowledge. We do cover a broad demographic spectrum, and despite our differences, we conduct ourselves in a civil, respectful manner, avoiding the hostile exchanges that often characterize specialty forums.

David is a talented and dedicated administrator who has worked diligently to establish and maintain the excellence of this Board.

I am grateful that John started this Board and hope that he returns soon.

Gotta chip in here too......

Yes, this is a most excellent forum that continues to grow and flourish. Like all forums it has its ups and downs in terms of numbers of post but given that its only 6 months old the progress has been phenomenal. Personally, I've only encountered nice people here and unlike previous boards (we all know which I mean) the admin here are dedicated to maintaining an open and respecful forum...without decending into promoting their own self interests or encouraging fights to spice things up. I don't miss the "old days" one little bit.

Well done to John, David and all the other unsung admin heros (and others who have tirelessly promoted this board behind the scenes). We certainly all owe you a great debt of gratitude. :D

I could not have expressed myself better than with what the previous posts already said. The TMF is fine place where I like to come by for indulging in anything phono-related.
Yes, the birth of this place was certainly one of the nicest things that recently happened in this subject.

Hi All,
I agree, in Arizona I know that there a few collectors but do not think that any visit this board or maybe they are just not really into this any further than picking up a machine every now and then. I have met a few very nice people on the board via the board and know that there are many more out there-and gained a lot of knowledge from this group. Thanks to all that take an active part and thx to all that do the hard work of keeping something like this going. For those in the U.S. have a great and safe 4th.

Everyone, thank you.

This is going to have to be a quick reply (as I’m leaving for work in a few minutes), but I cannot thank everyone on this forum enough for their support, and honestly, you guys do most of the work. ;)

Especially in helping others with their questions, sharing your knowledge and promoting discussions. I am still no expert when it comes to phonographs or the music played on them, although I’ve learned a lot from all of you, and I’m familiar with a decent sampling of the music.

Having talked to John again last night (and having seen a good bit of him lately), I can assure you that not only is he doing well, he’s also been busy working on content for a new feature we are planning (and for which I am currently implementing the code). We plan on opening that very soon, and you should see him back on the TMF when that happens; he’s winding down his break from the internet and is very excited to be offering new material and features.

I just wish that I didn’t have my current work schedule—at the moment my next day off is Tuesday; it’s going to be a long weekend. :D

I’ve been very proud to be able to offer my expertise with the internet and developing web content, and I think that we all should be pleased with our accomplishments here.

As I see it, The Talking Machine Forum will continue to grow and thrive, because we’re blessed with a lot of dedicated, passionate and knowledgeable individuals who are committed to having a friendly place for discussing these machines and the music associated with them.

Look forward to great things to come!

I agree with all of you! This board is of extremely high quality. All thanks to John for founding TMF and David does a great job to maintain such high quality on the board.
All the members are friendly and there is nothing negative to say. And as John said, I also count many on the board as my friends even though most of you live on the other side of the Atlantic.
I think it's great that all kind of brands are discussed on here, instead of only one type of phonograph make. And this makes the board even more interesting. I'm visiting several times a day and it's always exciting to see something has happened while I was asleep.

Paal.
