SOLD: Edison Red Banner Suitcase Home - $360.00

Post by Victrola-nut »

Offering this and several other items that are either too large or too heavy for shipping to be practical. If you want this item please make sure that you are able to pickup at the upcoming Wayne, NJ in April and item must be pre-paid.

Offering this very desirable Suitcase home that is complete and original. Comes with Model C reproducer and has two and four minute gearing as pics show. Bedplate and motor are nice, however case has some damage to the bottom board, which is also shown in pics. Fortunately, this is one solid piece and the rest of the case in pretty nice, including the lid. Decal and finish are fair as pics show. This would make a nice low-cost restoration project.

First person to PM me with "Sold" will be the new owner.

I can't believe the seller is telling me that I didn't get the machine because someone else beat me out.

Is it possible to get some clear pictures of the reproducer carriage? I have never seen the style of retaining ring that this one has.

That's an "Emerson" clip, and shown on pages 36, 45, 51, 54, 56, and 57 of The Talking Machine Compendium. Pages 56 and 57 show it close up on an early Home.

Very interesting that this super early Home has been converted to 2/4 minute. If George is reading would love to know when it left the factory. I don't think I've seen a red banner converted before. Nice machine!

Home No.775 left the factory about June 1897. This is probably the earliest Home I've seen that had a 2/4 minute attachment later fitted to it.

I suspect that members of this forum who viewed this listing on smartphones may have missed some of the important details of this machine.

Indeed, when I saw this and the serial number, my first reaction was, "Shouldn't this have a brass mandrel?" But of course it did - until the mandrel was changed out for the 2/4 gearing!

Somebody got a really good deal on this!

Yes but who, and what did they pay him for it? Did it end up going to the high bidder?

This is probably a true example of a very early home updated to the 4 minute era. Ascertaining whether examples like this are legit get more difficult if people cobble. Off the soapbox now. :monkey:
