Graphophone line-up

Post by TinfoilPhono »

Space in my house is so limited that I am not able to arrange my phonographs in a coherent, logical manner. Consequently most of my collection is organized haphazardly, mostly by size. So my Graphophone Grand ends up next to a tinfoil; my Class M sits next to a Lioret #2; etc. etc. Every once in a while I can juggle things to make a proper display, as with my Edison coin-ops -- H, Bijou and Excelsior -- that are side by side.

Last night I was thinking it's a shame that my 3 early Graphophones are scattered around (K, G, and N). I realized they would make a nice display if I could get them all on the same shelf. This morning I did some reshuffling and managed to get them together after all. :D Much better.

Beautiful, Rene. That's a shelf to warm the heart... :)

I made a curious discovery last summer, and I'm wondering if it might play out with two of your machines as well. Could you measure the lengths of the "Graphophone" decals on your K and your N?

Measuring across the centers, where the ribbon curves inward, they are both almost exactly 8".

Thanks Rene.

Last summer, by sheer fluke, I discovered that an original decal on a Type N coin op was approx. ½" shorter in length than original decals on conventional Type Ns, Type As, etc. I thought the decal on the door of your K looked like it might be one of these slightly shorter decals, but I guess not. :)

Thanks again,
George P.

Very nice display, Rene! It's funny, I just did something very similar with my Edison model A's (2nd type) Standard, Home, and Triumph. Although not nearly as spectacular as your three Graphophones... ;)

Curious about the ozokerite cylinder, is it original, and does it have sound on it, is there any recordings transcribed from any originals???? I have asked in several places and never got a response.
