Melotone soundbox?

Post by jboger »

I have soundbox that looks somewhat similar to an Exhibition but is not a Victor product. The inner side of the mica diaphragm is quite dirty, so much so that I can not read the words that identify the maker. I think I make out the word MELOTONE. In my searches, I have found Melotone records but not a Melotone soundbox. I may be reading this wrong. It is very unclear. So that's my question: Is there a Melotone soundbox?

Finally got the reproducer apart and was able to read the paper label. It's not Melotone but Miraphone for an early front mount machine, in case anyone is interested.

Miraphone named products were made by Mermod Frères Co. of Saint Croix Switzerland. Not certain (without a pic) why you assume it's for a front mount machine. The company made all types of machines over many years.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the post. My camera is not working. Anyway, I had done a web search. I found several photos of several machines, one of which was a front mount. A close up revealed what looked to be the same reproducer with the same text on the label as mine--others differed. That's certainly not conclusive, but given that and a long throat on the back, I concluded mine was for a front mount.
