Reproducer 101.

So I recently picked up an Edison Standard Model "B". One of the biggest obstacles to getting it working is the lack of a good reproducer. The one that came with it is incomplete and I don't think it's correct anyway. What little research I've done tells me it's a Model "H" reproducer since there are remnants of green dye on it:

I'll be looking for a Model "C" reproducer since I'm going to keep it a 2 minute player. What should I look out for when trying to find a reproducer? Original? Reproduction? Buy it rebuilt or rebuild it myself? Etc...

Original is best: you can tell them from repros by the presence of a serial number. Bring a high powered loupe to check the stylus for wear.

Rebuilt? It depends on who did the rebuilding: there are some excellent rebuilders around this Forum, if you don't wish to do it yourself.

If the reproducer is in generally good condition, you may only need to replace the gaskets, using the right tools and steady hands. The choice is yours.

Thanks! I enjoy working on things like this so I'll be looking for an original Model "C" and I'll replace the gaskets etc... myself.
