This is even better than the hi-fi Jeezuz in Indiana on Craigslist a few weeks ago!

eBay Item #280378021123

MordEth, can you please post this better for us? Thanks!

This is unbelievable! Ha! Here is the best part of the whole thing...the seller said a list of the records is available if desired. At a cool $70,000 starting price, does this guy really think the records are even necessary?! :D

When a seller lists something with high beginning price, doesn't he pay extra in cost of ebay ad? Or is that just for reserving high?

On second inspection, it looks more like Gabby Hayes than Jay-zuz!

Folks,

That is an "interesting" listing. I don't know whether the seller believes his or her listing-if they are devout or a charlatan. I ask everyone to please remember to be respectful of the beliefs of others and to give the benefit of the doubt to people where faith is involved. Thank you all!!!!!

Regards,
John

We take old-time photos at the Everglades City, Florida Sea Seafood Festival that is held in February each year (Everglades City is where the seller of the $70000 Silvertone in question resides per the eBay listing). We stay at (and would not stay anywhere else!) a campground close by Everglades City on the Tamiami Trail that is owned by a gentleman who allegedly spotted and filmed a 'Skunk Ape' -- sort of an Everglades 'Bigfoot' -- and has not only set up a 'Skunk Ape Research Headquarters' and museum/souvenir shop at the entrance to the campground, but received a $250000 grant from Collier County to do so!

In the 1980's -- a massive coordinated drug bust of the county resulted in the arrest of something like 7 out of 10 adult males, all working in the marijuana smuggling industry.

It is our favorite part of Florida, and it certainly is an interesting place! A $70K Silvertone with an image of Jesus Christ revealed in quarter-sawn oak figure somehow doesn't seem very out of place there to me -- and I say that most respectfully.

I did email the seller of the $70000 Silvertone and nicely tell her/him that it it is not a "Victrola" and the date is off by a few years. I respectfully did not mention price or religious stuff. She/he emailed back and told me that they knew nothing about the item and they said so in the listing, and that they were selling it for a friend (do I smell a Skunk Ape?). So, I emailed back and told her/him that I did read that in the listing and that is precisely why I wrote them in the first place, so now that they did know some things about the item I suggested that they append the listing with correct nomenclature and dates so that they would have more credibility with potential buyers. Haven't heard anything back yet. I was very respectful, although I think the late Reverend Ike would love this listing!

There is on record that would fit this machine like a glove.
If he included it, the whole package just might be worth it :o

I don't want to insult anyone's faith, but doesn't the Bible say "Freely you have received, so freely give."? Unless, of course, they paid 70K for it, and so are simply trying to break even.

I hope the price tag includes new turntable felt.

This is a shame, it's probably going to get re-relisted and hang around forever. Priced at around $200 someone could have an attractive machine.

Just saw an identical Silvertone in oak in an antiques mall on the couthouse square in Crown Point, Indiana for $350 this afternoon. Although it didn't have the factory-optional graven image, it did have a 12" Victor Deluxe record of 'Stars and Stripes Forever' by Sousa's Band on the turntable.
