An unusual Victor label from 1928-green label

Here is a rare and unusual Victor with a green label from 1928-1929 I thought the group would like to see.

Ive never seen a Victor label like that before...I guess it must be unusual. Come to think of it I thought that Victors were like fords and only came in black

Was this green type label for what were effectively limited disk runs for private disks? Very intersting in any case.

Thanks for sharing the photo. Those auto/promo recordings are cool. I have a little durium record for the 1928 Chevrolet.

RJ,

Victor had a green bat-wing series that went from 1917-29 and the contents were for educational purposes (language lessons,singing lessons).

I assume that these special holiday recordings continued to be issued, at least up into the 1940s. I have two of them that were sent to my dad, who was an M.D., I think by some pharmaceutical company. They are both red vinyl, dated 1947 and 1948, and the 1947 one is single-sided with a beautifully embossed back lettered "RCA Victor" and featuring the RCA circular logo and the Nipper "His Master's Voice" image in adjacent circles about the size of silver dollars. These records have special labels, too. If I could post photos (no digital camera!) I would. Of course, I can't play them on my VV-XI. The 1947 is "Star Dust," played by the Tex Beneke Orchestra, and the 1948 one (double-sided) is Serge Koussevitsky playing his Double Bass Concerto.

This is the first one that I have seen, so jazzgirl1920s—thank you for sharing it!

I need to redouble my efforts at cutting out labels; this might make someone a very nice avatar when Christmas rolls around again.

Henry, do you have a scanner? If so, I find that scanning record labels works a lot better than trying to take pictures of them (at least for me). Of course, if you do not have a scanner, but can take regular (analog) phonographs of them (or anything else), I’ll PM you my mailing address, and you’re welcome to mail anything you want scanned to me.

I’d like to be able to facilitate everyone being able to share things of interest that they might wish to show on here.
