Victrola IV motor
Can anybody tell me if the gear that engages the governor mechanism from the spindle on a VV- IV is any different from that same gear on a standard Victor motor from the later years? It fits the spindle and seems like it would be the same but it's just a tiny bit too tight with the governor assembly, so it doesn't want to move into place. My IV was missing the gear when I got it. If they aren't interchangeable, would it be cheaper to get the proper gear, or to just get a new motor?

The VV-IV used several different motors over the course of its long life. You'll get a better answer to your question if you post pictures of the motor.

Here are some pictures of the motor installed in the phonograph. The best I can get at the moment.

They are all different from motor to motor. I had this problem with a early model. Some have straight cut some have angle cut. I bought a new one from George Vollema.

Re: Victrola IV motor
This Victrola motor used a fine angle cut spindle gear. The earliest ones from 1911-1912 used a course angle cut spindle gear. Your motor is an intermediate one from about 1913-14. The later motors from 1915 on, used the straight cut spindle gear. You can find these on ebay or a forum member might have this gear. Check with dealers such a George Vollema,Dwayne Wyatt,or Ron Sitko.
