Do I Replace The Stylus? Check Out These Pictures!

I need to know if I should replace my stylus or not on an Edison C Reproducer. I was told to look at it and make sure that it doesn't need turned or replaced but I am not quite sure what I am looking for. So in essence, I decided to figure out a way to get pictures posted and this is what I came up with:



Does this need turned/replaced? I used a high powered telescope eyepiece butted up backwards against the camera's lens to take the pic. Worked pretty well!

This stylus looks absolutely like it should, it does not need to be replaced or turned.

I have my reservations against door knob styli in general as they will wear down wax cylinders much quicker than the earlier bullet sapphires.

Are you inquiring about the stylus because the machine isn't playing properly? If so, it sounds like the problem may be something other than the stylus... it looks to be in great shape. I'd check the alignment of the needle bar (both vertically and horizontally) and I'd make sure the half-nut and feedscrew mechanism is working correctly.

It's pretty funny actually...I have a Sony digital camera that is a couple years old. It's nothing special at all being only 8.1 mega pixels and priced around $150.00. But I have a 25mm eyepiece to a celestron telescope that I use when I really need some heavy duty magnification. I thought about it for a bit when checking out my stylus using the eyepiece and had an idea. I turned on the camera and held the eyepiece flush against the camera lens. (Carefully as not to hurt the lens.) Both lenses benefited from each other in essence creating a weak microscope that can take pictures. Here are a couple more. I was really surprised at how well it focused and snapped these pictures!

Thanks, I thought you must have used some type of microscope. This isn't the first time someone needed advice on their stylus and knowing how to get a good closeup photo like this is helpful.

That is really clever. Those are great pictures of what a stylus should look like. I would have never thought of such an approach
