Cleaning the Exhibition soundbox

Post by jboger »

I want to clean the backplate of an exhibition soundbox, the part with the white lettering. I want to know if that paint is water soluble or not. I would like to use soapy water to give the backplate a good clean but won't if the paint is soluble in water. How do people clean these backplates without damaging either the paint or surface finish? Thanks.

After you've completely disassembled your Exhibition you might use a soft toothbrush and a bit of Ivory soap. Jerry Blais

Jerry

My question was a general one. For the one that I just took a part (had a nasty rusted screw), I took a soft jeweler's brush and gently brushed the surface.I left it at that because it looked pretty good. But others I've worked on could stand something more.

OK, so some gentle brushing with with a wet toothbrush dipped in soapy ivory water. I guess I won't immerse it and let it soak.
