Maybe (?) the first Merry Christmas wish here?

Post by FloridaClay »

Can't believe it, but here it is time to get ready for Christmas. Here is the front of my card for this year. The picture is of a real Christmas postcard in my collection of phonograph ephemera. It was mailed (with a one cent stamp, all that was required at the time) from Frederick, Maryland, to Cumberland, Indiana, on December 21, 1909. It depicts a fanciful outside horn phonograph nestled in holly. The faint gray lines in the upper left corner appear to be from contact with a not-quite-dry cancellation stamp on a piece of adjacent mail encountered in post office processing. The image is embossed on the card, so that the leaves, berries, and parts of the phonograph are raised to give a three dimensional effect.

A wonderful holiday season to you all!

Thank you, Clay!

We're pretty fascinated by the "pinecone-man", and its historical symbolism. This particular PC was post marked June 23, 1910, adding to our curiosity.

Best,

Do you have another favorite you'd like to show us?

I'm hoping for Clay's post to morph into a collection of other's Holiday postcards, that would be nice for the Season. :)
