My wife and I spent the day hitting the junk stores, just killing time and enjoying being with one another. I wound up bringing home two trunk loads of records. Maybe 40 albums full, a box full plus complete album sets. 10" records, one 11" record and a bunch of 12" ones. I've been dancing around the house all evening!!!
It's going to take me some time to go through all of them get them cleaned, weed out any broken and just enjoy them!!
Just thought I'd share my luck and happiness.
Good record score today

Congrats... but before you go any farther, make sure you reinforce the floors in the area you intend to keep them, because this is just the start... and records are extremely heavy.

Yes congratulations on a day well spent. I have several boxes in my basement (no need to reinforce the concrete floor yet) that I have yet to go through, clean and enjoy.
My wife and I occasionally do the same thing at antique markets. I'm always on the hunt for anything
music related and she's mainly interested in old apothecary. We start in different areas of the market,
cross paths a few times and then meet up in the end which is ideal because i hate her.

Wow!! I mean just Wow!Mr Grumpy wrote:which is ideal because i hate her.
I went through some of the records last night after I posted. Some of the records are trash, but I pulled out a few from their original album sleeves, and they look like they haven't seen the light of day in over 50 years. Just as clean and shiny as a brand new record. I cranked Victor up, plopped down on the couch and just soaked it all in.

Funny... I read <<Good record store day>> at first glance!!!
Well, in my humble opinion the real relevant news are that you carried home two trunk loads of records and no less than 40 albums full, and that you still have a wife!

I'm not sure I've ever seen an 11" record... you might find that the rarest, if not most interesting, of your lot!

Pathé had quite a number of odd sized records.bfinan11 wrote:I'm not sure I've ever seen an 11" record... you might find that the rarest, if not most interesting, of your lot!

Most Fonotipia discs were 10 ¾ inches, super close to 11 and they aren't too terribly hard to find. Same with blue shellac American discs, which were made by Hawthorn and Shebele, these being a bit more scarce, at least from my experience.

I guess a lot of those are close to 11 - I thought of them as slightly oversized 10 and undersized 12 inch, and assumed (probably correctly) that they were Metric sizes. I still want to find one of the 50cm behemoth discs, even though I'll probably never have anything to play it on it would still make a conversation/wall hanging piece.alang wrote:Pathé had quite a number of odd sized records.bfinan11 wrote:I'm not sure I've ever seen an 11" record... you might find that the rarest, if not most interesting, of your lot!

Maybe it's a regional thing, but I've never seen either of these in the wild, only occasionally on ebay listings.OrthoSean wrote:Most Fonotipia discs were 10 ¾ inches, super close to 11 and they aren't too terribly hard to find.
