After 1910, most records are well marked one-step, two-step, "for dancing", etc... but much before 1910 and it's not so easy. I'd like to round off my collection with really early dance music but don't know how to find them. Are there keywords or particular artists I need to look for? Any format is fine.

Early military band recordings on cylinder and disc often featured dance music. That would be a good area in which to start looking.

I have a nice 12 inch Grand Prize Victor of "Cakewalk in the Sky" that would certainly qualify as a dance record.

I don't know if this will help, but there was a Victor Dance Orchestra, whose earliest recordings date to 1903. The bulk of their recordings date between 1904 and 1911. I'm familiar with them from a 1904 recording of Sobra las Olas (Over the Waves Waltz).
