VV-IV restoration video "I Wish I Were Single Again"

Post by DGPros »

I had restored a XVII in Walnut last winter, so for my summer project I thought smaller...and easier. I found this little banged up piece of S  :o :? :!: and thought this would be a perfect companion piece to Dick Holmes "Hallelujah I'm a Bum". The flip side is "I Wish I Was Single Again". I have since put the correct reproducer on her,(I used the same rebuilt No.2 for both videos) but still looking for the right hardware knob. I thought I found one, but alas, it was the wrong size. Anyway, this was a fun little project. Enjoy, Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all.

and for those inclined to catch "A" side Hallelujah I'm a Bum"

Nice machines and videos. Glad you rescued that little VV IV. I have a soft spot for those machines. You have a very early one, late 1911, early 1912. The VV XVII, is nice, too.

Thanks Harvey, yes It's an "A" which came right after the metal grill. If the Victor Data Book is correct, it puts it at the end of 1912, most likely a Christmas present. (At least that's how I would like to remember it :D

Great looking restoration on the XVII.
Do you have any refinishing how-to resources that you'd recommend to a beginner wishing to learn how to restore these cabinets?

Thanks for the kind words,
At the end of my videos I acknowledge most of the sources I used in those videos. I neglected to add this page because I closely associate it with "The Antique Phonograph Society"

1) The Compleat Talking Machine by Eric L. Reiss (if you are serious about repairs and restoration, among other information, this is the #1 place to start.)
2) This site. Use the search function to look up whatever your thinking about on that day. I've spent hours, and will spend many more, looking up whatever it was that I came across and wanted to learn more. If you spend some time on here, you will find TONS of information from people WAY more experienced than I.
3) The "Antique Phonograph Society" www.antiquephono.org/ A great organization and highly recommend joining. You get to access more info on the web site and get 4 issues sent to your door. I don't know how many times I would skip an article, because I new nothing about it, only finding myself months later reading and rereading it.

Best of luck, and I can only speak for myself, I love to see new acquisition and restoration project. So please share yours.
