Will this horn crane fit my Edison Standard D?

If you look a page or two back in the Trader section I sold the same crane for a little more than the starting price of the eBay crane. It would work on your Standard D but it would not be really correct. When the Standard D was made, the Edison company was selling their own Edison Horns with Edison cranes. The eBay crane was offered when Edison and Columbia machines were sold with small horns that rode on the reproducers. Machine owners that wanted a larger horn had a huge variety of horns from which to choose. The earlier cranes, like the one on eBay, were adjustable not only for the size of the cabinet but also for the size of the horn. I'd welcome other opinion on this. Am I splitting hairs? Jerry B.

How about that base? It doesn't look like it will slide into the bracket underneath the case.

I believe it means that the crane is an after-market model, which predates the larger Edison horns and cranes. I have one of somewhat similar design on my Standard B.

It does not go under the case, but attaches in front. The clamp (shown wrong way round in the photo) screws onto the top edge of the case, below the motor board.

The crane in the eBay listing consists of the bottom to a Hawthorne & Sheble No.5, and the rods to a Tea Tray No.200. (This information has been published in The Sound Box [now The Antique Phonograph], and is currently available to all APS members on the Antique Phonograph Society web site.)

The H&S No. 5 is not adaptable for use on a "suitcase" Home, nor on the early Standard (either 2-clip or 4-clip).

Where exactly are these "eyes"? The APS article on the Standard does not mention these.

Most likely, the "suitcase" models would have used a floor crane for a larger horn.
