For Sale: Columbia V-T 202 Project With Great Bones- $175

Post by gramophone-georg »

Here's a nice Columbia Viva Tonal 202 portable suitcase that's slightly cosmetically challenged but nothing some good elbow grease and paint can't handle. It's a little grubby but it looks like all the brightwork will clean up and shine great with some #0000 steel wool. As you'll see, the little machine winds up fine, plays great, and really packs a punch! Everything works as it should, but the bakelite trip for the auto stop on the spindle has a clean split in it and doesn't "grab". That's the only mechanical problem, and it could be fixed with a little JB weld and some patience.

The little record holder that goes in the lid is missing, but here is one on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/302186284031?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

Review the pictures and listen to it play "Dixie Jamboree" from 1929 in the video- that's Fred Rich's band with Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey as well as Bunny Berigan taking solos in the non- vocal version of this tune that Columbia put out on its budget Harmony/ Diva/ Velvet- tone labels.

(Excuse the funny looking schmuck in the tatty work clothes. He forgot to dress up! I should fire him.)

Price as you see it is $175 plus shipping from the Eugene, Oregon area. If you let it sit here too long, you'll force me to go all Mica Monster on it and get the record holder and start cleaning it up and fixing the stop... then the price goes up!
