FOR SALE: Herzog Record Cabinet - INQUIRE

Post by Omanwill »

I am currently accepting offers for the attached Herzog record cabinet.

The cabinet is at my home, located in East Lansing, Michigan. I will make reasonable accommodation(s) to assist, but pickup, or any related costs associated with, are the responsibility of the buyer.

To simplify the process, and because of the high amount of interest in this piece, I ask that you please include the exact price you are offering in your message.

The history of the cabinet is limited; but I believe it has been in my family for 75-100 years. It was part of my mother's estate, and originally belonged to my grandmother.

I've included a variety of pictures, but if you would like to see a particular section/area, please send me a private message, and I will post additional.

As always, I'm happy to answer or address any questions/concerns/comments.

Best of luck,

Bill

Maybe eBay might be best if you aren't willing to name a price.

Thanks for the feedback. I did consider that. I also looked into auction houses.

However, I'd really like to see it go to someone who appreciates it. And I think this is a better forum for that to occur.

Although I was interested in the cabinet I will not be participating in the behind the scene blind offers.
If the offers were posted and open I would take part.
Just my 2 cents

Hello;

I understand. And I'm sorry you feel that way. My intention is certainly not to defraud anybody.

That said, I've sold a variety of things in other forums like eBay, CL's, etc. And none of them are perfect.

I've been sent the wrong merchandise/wrong colors...dealt with underperforming buyers. And sadly, CL can, at times, even be dangerous. Certainly, we can all agree it is full of scams.

That said, in this particular case, (from what I can tell from looking online, and through the opinions of others), the general value of this cabinet is in the neighborhood of $800-$1000. It may be worth far less to some, far more to others. (To me, it really has very little value, but I'm not a collector/enthusiast. I'd merely like to make a tidy profit, and see it go to somebody who appreciates it.)

I wish there was a perfect way where I could see other, (identical) cabinets that sold, determine an exact value, and satisfy everybody's concerns. And I'm open to suggestions on how to accomplish that, but this is the best I could come up with.

Nonetheless, if you'd like to discuss additional concerns privately, I'll gladly listen.

Thanks,

Bill

I paid $75 for mine from an antique furniture dealer in better shape but I will not sell it as I am a record phono collector. They aren't easy to find
as I have never found another. But when you look at other peoples major collections they always seem to have one. Pick a price or eBay it.

While I also do not like this option of posting something in the Yankee Trader section(taking offers), it is included in the listed way to post an item in the guidelines for posting in this section. I would be happier if this was not an option, as I think many others would. Just my opinion.

These are nice cabinets, but knowing the dimensions of the open area at the top would be helpful to determine what model machine this was specifically intended to hold. I had one of these in oak for a victor V that I sold several years ago for about 400, although it had a couple damaged feet and the handle was missing. A hundred bucks or less for one of these would be a steal.

Good morning,

Per the request, I've attached additional photos of the top dimensions.

In regards to the way I chose to do the posting; I am very sorry that people are frustrated with no list price. I do understand. However, perhaps there needs to be a debate among the membership about having that option, especially given the dislike towards it. (?)

Finally...on price; I think these cabinets are fairly rare finds. In my private conversations with other members, (early on), there was a consensus that value would be in the thousand dollar + range. Of the offers I've received, I believe that view would be correct.

I think bill is looking for top dollar and there is nothing wrong with that. With that said if all members here did not send him a bid, maybe he would have to put it on ebay. With pick up only you might get a better price. IMHO
